Metropolitan Sydney has employment options although housing is too expensive for many. On the other hand, Western Sydney has more affordable housing but limited employment opportunities. This challenge has been growing bigger for more than a generation. Now, after decades of debates and abandoned proposals, it is starting to look like there might be some light at the end of the tunnel. It is looking increasingly likely that the federal government’s proposal to develop a second Sydney airport at Badgery Creek (western suburbs) will go ahead; albeit ten years or so before it is completed. The airport and adjoining business park will create much needed employment opportunities.
