96% of Australian’s aged 65, who leave the paid workforce do so reliant on a government pension – that is a fact. This means, statistically, only 1 in 25 people you know, will retire being financially independent. In a well-developed country such as Australia, we have the fundamentals to do much better. We are generally well educated, earn a decent wage and have low levels of unemployment.
What’s missing for a large portion of the 96% of people that aren’t financial secure by 65, isn’t a lack of capability or motivation, but a lack of financial literacy. As Australians, we aren’t taught financial literacy in schools or universities, and with government initiatives such as superannuation in place, it is easy for many people to feel complacent about their financial futures.
For the entire PROPERTYOLOGY team, there is nothing more satisfying than working with our clients to help them put plans in place to change their future. Many new clients come to us expressing their objective as “I wish to purchase an investment property”. It may even be more specific, “We are currently looking to purchase an investment property in Brisbane”. However, on further investigation, it’s evident that for most clients their real goal is wealth creation. The desire to be able to exit the workforce on their own terms and at a time that suits them, or as we way, they want to achieve financial independence.
For most people, purchasing a single investment property will not help them achieve their goal – while it may be a step in the right direction, a single purchase represents only a small step in their overall objectives.
